A Word from Jacob
Hello! My name is Jacob, a licensed professional counselor in the Houston Area. My journey into the world of professional counseling began at the Texas OCD Institute, where I completed both my practicum and internship. Over the course of a year and a half at the OCDI, I received a world-class education in the treatment of OCD and anxiety disorders. My treatment approach for OCD and anxiety —and therapy and general — can be best described as experiential. We learn how to move past our anxieties by living through them, by learning that when we face our worries and choose to live towards our values despite them, the power of our anxieties over our lives collapses. I’ve had my own struggles in life, and know this is much easier said than done. But it can be done, and I’m here to help you do it. Even if you’re not looking for a therapist, but have some general questions about OCD/anxiety, please feel free to reach out. I know it’s a hard journey, and I would be happy to do what I can to point you in the right direction.
I’m also a believer in the power of therapy, beyond OCD/anxiety-specific work. I’m particularly passionate about working with men's issues, life transitions, and relational roadblocks. Life is hard, and truly knowing ourselves is even harder. We get stuck in the same cycle, feel like we’re just spinning our wheels. Sometimes, it feels like we’re living in one of those dreams where no matter how fast we run, or how hard we flap our limbs, we can’t move at all. Moving is hard. Change is hard. But, it is doable. As the great Greek philosopher Socrates said, “The unexamined life is not worth living”. And as the great father of person-centered psychotherapy, Carl Rogers, wrote, “The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.” Good therapy is about getting to know you more fully, so that you can make the changes you truly want in life. If this interests you, you’ve come to the right place. Additionally, if you have any questions about this type of therapy, or are curious about other ways to access it, please feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to chat.
